Freaky Friday Hi Parents; What a change from the recent hot weather to this morning’s pouring rain — it truly felt like a “Freaky Friday” kind of day! Today, the students completed their quiz, and many of them felt confident about their work. I will begin correcting the tests   soon, and we will see the results after that. Regardless of their scores, I am very proud of the effort the children showed. They worked hard and did their best. We are almost finished with this year’s semester curriculum. The students have their Practice Books 1 and 2 to review and make corrections in during their free time this weekend. I have also checked their books as part of the preparation for the final exams. Over the next few weeks, we will continue reviewing and reinforcing the lessons taught throughout the school year. Our goal is to help the children feel confident and develop a strong understanding of everything they have learned. Thank you for your continued support at home! Homework: M...
Tiring Thursday Hi Parents; Yes, with this heat, everyone is feeling hot and tired. The humidity is making many students feel more lethargic than usual, and the children are becoming tired more quickly throughout the day. They are also drinking much more water to stay hydrated. Sports drinks are recommended to help students replenish electrolytes and stay hydrated in this weather. Today in class, we completed and corrected the quiz review worksheet together. This worksheet should now be used at home to help your child study for tomorrow’s quiz. Students also have until tomorrow to check over their MyView 1.3 workbook pages 14–95. Please make sure all pages are completed. If your child has questions about any workbook directions, please have them FOLD the page, and I will review and explain it with them before sending it back home for corrections or completion. Homework: May 28th Thursday 星期四 □ 1. MV:    “The Race” pp.63-65 and “The Clever Monkey...
Wacky Wednesday: Hello Parents: Today was a catch-up, correction, and review day in our class. We completed our My View Practice book, corrected any errors that may have been made, and read our class story, The Clever Monkey . It has been such a great read! The children always have so much to share about their thoughts and opinions on the story. Take some time to ask your child how they liked the story and what, if anything, they learned from it. We were able to accomplish a lot today! Tonight, students have been asked to go back into My View 1.3 to ensure that all pages are completed and that any needed corrections are made. I will collect the books again on Friday for Homework: May 27th  Wednesday 星期三 MAY 27 TH □ 1. MV: Read “The Clever Monkey”         pp.  70-93   □ 2. Write VW’s # 4 Weekly Conversations sentences  2X  each □ 3. Make       ...
Tantalizing Tuesday: Hi Parents: Today was full of interesting activities in our English class. We visited our school’s Global Education displays, which sparked many questions from the children about countries they were unfamiliar with. Some students who had visited these countries were excited to share their own experiences as well. Back in class, the students worked on a worksheet; however, many of them were unable to complete their Global Experience worksheet during class time. I have asked them to take it home to finish both the written portion and the decorations. We also had a short discussion about different countries before continuing with our new story, The Clever Monkey . We were not able to cover as much of the story today because we spent time reviewing and explaining the homework worksheets. Please encourage your child to spend some time reading independently at home. Homework: May 26th  Tuesday 星期二 MAY 26 TH   □ 1. MV: ...
Manic Monday, Hi Parents: Please forgive me for not publishing Friday’s post until this morning. I was unexpectedly called into a meeting and forgot to press publish. I sincerely apologize for the delay. Today was filled with quizzes, worksheets, and workbook corrections. As we approach the end of the final semester of Grade 1, I want to make sure all students have completed their workbooks, assignments, and any unfinished corrections. It is quite a big task to ensure the children complete these corrections independently, and while checking their books again, I noticed that some students had skipped parts altogether. However, we will work through everything together today. This week, we will also begin a new story in our My View book.  The final story of the semester. After this story we'll review Poetry and other story elements.  "The Clever Monkey" is a wonderful story that will help the children better understand the morals and lessons found in stories. We only read h...
Fantastic Friday Hi Parents; Happy Weekend! Today wrapped up our week and began the next weeks curriculum. The children took their test this morning. I have not had the time to look the tests over yet. I'll get it done by Monday for corrections and distribution. I'm hoping we have really good scores this week. Today we were able to page through the final few pages in the MV book to complete this unit and get ready for next weeks final story of the semester. How ironic that the final story is called "The Clever Monkey". A cheeky story with a great moral. I'll review with the children in the upcoming weeks, to prepare the students for grade 2. Can you believe it? Parents your babies are moving on up in their educational journey. Brace yourselves as these next few years will FLY by without you even realizing that the time has gone by.  HOMEWORK: May 22nd Friday 星期五 □ 1. MV: Preview: “The Race”            ...
Terrific Thursday Hi Parents: Today was a great day! We reviewed the lessons that will be covered on tomorrow’s test, and I was able to identify the areas where the children need a little more practice. I prepared worksheets for them to complete tonight to help reinforce these skills. The test tomorrow will be challenging, so I encouraged the children to carefully read the stories, understand the plot, identify the problem and solution, and review page 44 in the MyView student book. Students should also know: The genre of the story and the meaning of a moral The difference between writing a poem and a haiku In Phonics, students should understand digraphs and trigraphs. In Grammar, they should have an understanding of: Singular and plural nouns Comparative adjectives (adding -er or -ier ) Superlative adjectives (using more when appropriate) Please take the time to focus on the items above as well as the vocabulary words and definitions. Thank you for supporting your child’s learning ...
Wonderful Wednesday; Hi Parents; Today was a quick and productive day for all of us. During math class, the students were able to complete their math books, and we also reviewed some of the areas they have been struggling with. Most of the misunderstandings seem to come from the vocabulary used in the math book. If the concepts were explained in Chinese, there would likely be fewer difficulties. To ensure the students have a clear understanding of the mathematical language used in English, I will continue reviewing the material with them and go over the entire math book again for clarity and confidence. Tonight, the children should focus on their comparative adjective and vocabulary worksheets. They will have a test this Friday, and a review worksheet will be sent home tomorrow. I have also asked the children to review their My View books, as there is important information in the practice books that they should know. Please take some time to review this week’s materials and worksheets...
Tiring Tuesday Hi Parents; Today was a tiring but productive day for both the children and myself. We were able to complete our writing assignment and work through most of the worksheets needed to help the students better understand tonight’s homework. The children were asked not to copy the paragraph from the worksheet’s fill-in-the-blank section. That paragraph is only meant to serve as a short guide for what they should include in their own writing assignment. I would like them to write from the heart and express their true feelings about what they are saying goodbye to. It was wonderful to hear the students using comparative adjectives to talk about how much they have progressed. I’m excited to see their completed worksheets tomorrow! Homework: May 19th   Tuesday 星期二 □ 1. MV: Read:The Ant and the Grasshopper  pp. 28-41    __  □ 2. Write VW’s #            11 -  20 ...
Mighty Monday Hi Parents: Hopefully you all had a great weekend.  Today was a good day in class! We corrected our quiz from last Friday and reviewed the students’ work together. While we did not have any perfect scores this time, I am still very proud of the effort the students showed. Everyone tried their best, and our class average was still an impressive 90%. Great job, A1 students! For homework tonight, the children have been asked to complete the assigned worksheet and pages assigned in the MV Practice Book 1.2. I gave the students time to begin the vocabulary worksheet in class today. The vocabulary writing assignment is our regular Monday homework; however, students do not need to write sentences tonight. I strongly encourage the children to review their definition worksheet at home to help them prepare for Friday’s test. This week’s test will focus on both story comprehension and the definitions of our weekly vocabulary words. Tomorrow, we will begin working on the st...
